If you own a dehumidifier, please read!

On September 12, 2013, Gree, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, announced a recall on dehumidifiers manufactured by Gree Electric Appliances of China and were sold from January 2005 through August 2013. The dehumidifiers can overheat, smoke and catch fire, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.

This recall involves select 20, 25, 30, 40, 45, 50, 65 and 70-pint dehumidifiers with brand names Danby, De'Longhi, Fedders, Fellini, Frigidaire, GE, Gree, Kenmore, Norpole, Premiere, Seabreeze, SoleusAir and SuperClima.

If you happen to have one of those brands, go check this site: http://www.greedehumidifierrecall.com/ProductEntry.aspx.

Personally, I just happened to see a news story saying the recall had been expanded, and realized I owned one of those brands.  A check with the Web site and a call to the company's consumer center verified that mine wasn't among those recalled.  (Though it's still unplugged .... )
